Promises Keep

Mara Kincaid was doing everything that she could to hold onto her sanity. After being drugged and kidnapped, Mara is forced to work in a brothel. Cougar McKinley saves her from the brothel after she is forced to kill in order to save her own life. Cougar takes Mara to the town where he lives so she can rebuild her life. Cougar seems to be doing all he can to help Mara and she does not understand why.

Mara is shocked when Cougar proposes to her and more shocked when he will not let her refuse his offer of marriage. As the two travel the rocky road of marriage, Mara realizes she has fallen in love with Cougar but does not like his possessive streak.

Cougar McKinley would do whatever it takes to make up to Mara what happened at the brothel. Bringing her home with him seems to be the first step. Cougar does all he can to help Mara regain her life. He cannot deny that he is attracted to Mara, but knows Mara is not ready for any man’s attentions. And who could blame her after all she has suffered. When Cougar gets Mara to agree to marry him, he sees his chance. As their relationship blooms, Cougar can feel Mara’s love even if she will not admit it. Mara begins to pull away from him in an attempt for independence. Cougar is unable to stop himself from holding on too tight.

Sarah McCarty has written a heartwarming and heart-wrenching story. She takes Cougar and Mara from despair to joy. Cougar and Mara must overcome their individual pasts in order to have a future. The relationship of the two develops beautifully as they find love. Ms. McCarty has a wonderful sense of humor and a witty writing style. I enjoyed how well rounded all the characters were. The author has created main and secondary characters that the reader will find enjoyable. I could not put this book down.
