Wright and Wrong
Wright and Wrong brings to life one courageous woman’s struggle to find herself and build a new life amidst the harsh conditions of early America.
Emeline barely sees the vibrant, emotional woman she once was. Instead she sees a beautiful shell that is paraded before society, perfect but no substance. She is determined to find the woman she once was, but to do that she must first escape the man that haunts her every step. In a desperate plea for freedom, Emeline escapes one night and runs to the only home she has ever known. Does she have it within in her to rebuild her life and a rundown farm?
Very few people look beyond Tommy Medlin’s handsome face to the man beneath. His quiet manner and slow speech have branded him “slow” in the town’s eyes. Not many people even take notice of him; however, Emeline is different and Tommy feels compelled to protect her. Together these two find hope and a chance for a future neither could have foreseen. Before they can build their dream, events and individuals conspire to destroy them. Can a couple labeled Wright and Wrong prove that together they are more than right?
Jane E. Shoup’s Wright and Wrong is an enjoyable, emotional read that shows the courage and strength that was needed to survive during America’s early development. The characters are what will really draw readers into this story. Emeline is a kind and loving woman who is being forced to fit someone else’s image of the perfect woman. She has been subjected to many harsh realities in her young life and yet she still has hope. Her emotions are poignantly described for readers as she struggles to rebuild her life. Tommy is a wonderful deviation from traditional male heroes. This kind-hearted man is sure to win readers over with his loyalty and heart. Added to their story are a variety of secondary characters that contribute their own unique part to the plot. The story moves along at a consistent pace with the author showing the two worlds Emeline has effected. As a dangerous man searches for her, Ms. Shoup builds tensions and allows readers to understand the threat he poses towards Emeline. At the same time that Emeline is being hunted, readers are also treated to a wonderful friendship and love story. Readers will enjoy the interaction between Emeline and Tommy. Their love story is a joy to experience. As Ms. Shoup draws the story to conclusion, readers will appreciate the climatic, emotional ending and just how right these two mismatched characters have become.
