Third Time Lucky
Nick heads off to Rosemound to see his grandmother Lucia, who seems to invite him back into her life. If she’s cooking for him, everything will turn out fine; he knows her! But when he arrives, there's no smell of cooking. Instead he smells blood, and finds his grandmother in the garden stabbed with his knife. When he hears a siren go off he flees from the house as quickly as he can.
He needs help, but the only one he trusts to help him is Philippa Coxwell. Only problem is that it's been 15 years since he last saw her, back when she was studying to become a lawyer. When he goes to her house, he discovers that she’s not become a lawyer at all, and her career change is all because of him. She is now a garden designer. Although she won’t be of any legal help, Nick still needs her on this case, as she’s the only one he trusts.
When they go to the house together to take a look at the corpse they can’t find it - it’s gone. An angry Philppa thinks Nick lied to her about the whole thing and tells him to leave her alone.
Third Time Lucky is my first book from this author, and she’s definitely one to add to my stack of authors to keep a lookout for. It’s a very light story, very romantic and has some suspense scenes woven into it. The story starts very well, and it got me hooked immediately; there was no long and boring introduction, so it directly offers readers excitement. Claire Cross has made the dialogue switch from one character to another go smoothly and without any problems by changing the font type with every switch. She has a clear way of writing, and the pages just fly by. All I can say is this: read this book. You won’t be disappointed!
