Dark Desire

In Europe the year 1795...Kirsten, the last and the youngest of seven sisters to be given away in marriage, finds herself wed to Valdemar, a mysterious aristocrat reportedly cursed when it comes to finding and keeping a wife. Rumors claim that every previous fiancée or wife has ended up either missing or dead; now, Kirsten is afraid that she will be the next. Even the sexual attraction she feels for her new husband is not enough to calm her concerns. These same fears which prove to be well founded as she discovers the truth about the man she has wed. Soon Kirsten realizes a difficult choice must be made if she wants to survive.

Although a quick read at a mere fifty-four pages, Stephanie Bedwell-Grime manages to create a host of interesting characters and bring them to life, no pun intended! These are vamps with the classic attributes of sleeping during the day and blood drinking, and this tale has a dark and ominious feel. However, Ms. Bedwell-Grime manages to give the undead some very human characteristics, such as guilt and regret, that make them fantastic characters to get to know. Kirsten, the heroine, is very young and sometimes childish in behavior, but she is likeable, and you cannot help but hope that things will work out for her in the end. All in all, this was a very good read, and is well worth a look.There are many possibilities for sequels in this one and I definitely would like to get my hands on some more!
