The King's Choice

According to a long ago prophecy, Jakov, king of Braluse has to chose a bride by the night of the sixth red moon of his reign; if he doesn’t, he will never have children. He’s having a problem picking out the one that he will spend the rest of his long life with. None of the women interest him enough to take as wife for the rest of his life. Just as he decides to choose a queen and live with it, he meets a woman who intrigues him like no other. However, once she finds out who he really is, she won’t have anything to do with him, including being his next Queen.

Dijana was furious at being forced to display herself for the King. She’d tried so long and hard to stay out of the clutches of a man, and now, betrayed by her own mother, she is here to take her turn at being paraded in front of a man she despises. Her people have been decimated because of the King, or so she believes. There is also a prophecy to be fulfilled, but she wants no part of it. When she is finally chosen, she fights the whole way in and the advisor has to drag her down the corridor. When she sees a man looking on in amusement, she can’t believe how attracted she is to him. Until she finds out who he really is.

The King's Choice is an interesting love story that has some different twists that kept me involved in the story. The story line has some good ideas with a strong female lead who isn’t afraid to say what she thinks, no matter what. Unfortunately, I found some of the characters difficult to like and somewhat one-dimensional, which made it hard to connect with them. Jakov comes across as a completely spoiled individual due to his rank, and never really improves with the story. Dijana, while strong and fearless, seemed very immature for someone that had to take on so much at such a young age. The sex in the story was hot, and had a lot of variety. I liked the interesting triangle between Dijana, Jakov, and Adrija - it was rather out of the ordinary. I was looking for something quick and different to read, and The King's Choice fit the bill.
