The Beast: Taking Back Control
Suppose you were living a double life. Then suppose that all it would take is one slipup to bring your entire life crashing down around your ears. What kind of an existence would you really have? This is the dilemma Doctor Nathan Greer is faced with.
Doctor Nathan Greer has been leading a shadowed existence for over three years. He presents himself to the world as a human but is in fact a vampire. Nathan despises vampires and all that they stand for because of the way he was turned. He hates himself because he can turn into a vicious killer when put in certain situations. Unfortunately, Nathan isn't always able to control the situations he is faced with. Thus when circumstances beyond his control cause him to revert to the beast, he is forced to seek help from one of his own kind as much as he despises them.
Now Nathan's only hope is that Guillermo Perez, Kansas City's Master Vampire, will help him despite the fact that he punched Guillermo the last time Guillermo offered to help Nathan. To further complicate matters, Guillermo had looked at him like he was candy and Nathan was afraid if he spent too much time with Guillermo, he could lose himself.
Will Guillermo offer to help Nathan a second time? What will he expect in return? Can Nathan hope to keep his own identity or will he lose himself?
Reneé George's The Beast: Taking Back Control is really something else. There's angst, paranoia, and hope. I empathized with Nathan's character and the angst he faced. His paranoia was understandable. And I found myself rooting for him to overcome his beast. Guillermo is a vampire that is comfortable with himself and his sexuality. His confidence in himself is definitely a turn on, and the reason Nathan is so uncomfortable in his presence.
I'm by no means a fan of m/m stories, but Ms. George's The Beast: Taking Back Control definitely falls under the realm of red hot reads.
