Masterpiece
Scott Handler is a world-renowned artist, made famous by his painting called “Every Woman”. It’s been called the “modern day Mona Lisa”, and is hailed by critics everywhere. But Scott is a miserable and unsatisfied person, and a cruel man as well. He is immoral, and a pretty unlikable individual. When he chooses his work over his wife, the old adage about what goes around, comes around shows itself to be true...
Scott's poor wife was so in love with him once; that is, until he showed her exactly what he thought of her. Did she need him too much or did he just not need her enough?
Told in the first person, Masterpiece is a haunting and eye-opening commentary on selfishness and self-centeredness. This work is intended to be disturbing, and it certainly makes that grade. Scott is a user, a jerk, and a generally horrible person, and Nancy S. Ward tars him blackly with her artist’s brush. The story moved along quickly, with surprisingly frank and disturbing dialogue, and soon spiraled into a fitting climax. Masterpiece tells the tale of life's lessons learned too late to make a difference.
