One Knight Stands
One Knight Stands is Book Two of the Ladies of St. Jude’s Abbey series.
Elspeth Braybrooke isn’t your average medieval maiden. She’s trained in the art of hand-to-hand combat, and can bring a man to his knees with a swing of her pikestaff or a flick of her wrist. Elspeth has been charged by Eleanor of Aquitaine, the Queen of England, with a very special assignment – to protect the King and save him from certain death in Wales.
Tarran ap Llyr is a bastard prince of Wales on a mission of his own – to find and kill the man who murdered his dear wife. With his motley crew of men, friends of his from childhood, his quest takes him across his country and to the rescue of a redheaded hoyden hanging from an arrow slit in a castle wall. He’s terribly confused; how could one little English miss put all his plans awry and make him want to forget his honor for a taste of more earthly delights?
My, oh my – the sparks do fly when Tarran and Elspeth clash wills and weapons! Jocelyn Kelley shines like the brightest diamond in this lusty and luscious medieval frolic, pitting an unorthodox and unique Englishwoman against a tortured and depressed Welshman. Complete with oftentimes hilarious dialogue and tongue-in-cheek jabs at our handsome hero’s manly-man mentality, One Knight Stands shows that love is the only true battlefield – not at all for the faint of heart and far more dangerous. I’m celebrating this Recommended Read right along with Jocelyn Kelley; it was such a fun and funny read! I’ll be hunting up Book One in this side-splittingly funny series, entitled A Knight Like No Other, and will be breathlessly anticipating the series’ next book, A Moonlit Knight, as well. Kudos to Ms. Kelley for her unparalleled and highly entertaining take on a medieval-style romance with a twist and the fulfillment of one’s honorable duty in spite of personal wants in One Knight Stands. Another helping, please!
