Skipping Heaven
Daniel Woods just wants to get to Kentucky, to the house and acreage that is his inheritance. He plans to raise horses, and his thoroughbred, Zeus, is a part of those plans. Along the trail, however, Zeus is injured in an accident and Daniel must find a place to care for him until he is better. Now they’re stuck in the Appalachian Mountains, and Daniel is on foot, having to lead the hurt horse.
Justine Noakes is well-protected, both by her dog and her derringer; a woman alone has to be extra careful. When a man comes to her homestead, leading a limping horse with him, she takes pity on him and allows him to bunk in her barn. What she doesn’t count on is the attraction that she feels for Daniel, and their short time together takes on a serious tone when he wants more than she is able to give him. Then she tells him to walk up the trail to find his answers...
Skipping Heaven is a tale of otherworldly passion and of finding out that the life you most want is the one you never dared to dream of. Daniel and Justine are carefully crafted, and this story brings out the best in them. I especially liked the large part that the animals played in this work, and the simplicity of Justine’s life. Combining non-traditional paranormal elements and timeless love, Rayne Forrest pens a unique and heartwarming story in Skipping Heaven.
