A Legacy through Time
A vow made by lovers haunts future generations…
Emma Sorenson was strangely drawn to the old Kinsman home, an elegant double-story house with strong Victorian detailing. She was intrigued by an old journal which had belonged to her aunt, Samanda. It told of her love for young Henry Kinsman before she had mysteriously disappeared. Emma is determined to find out what had happened to her aunt, so applies to rent out the home. She is oddly certain that she will find some clues amongst the antique furniture and dust. Emma is greeted by Kate, an older lady who had worked for the family and was now acting as caretaker. Although she has never been there before, Emma feels like she has come home. Whilst admiring a portrait of Samuel Kinsman in the master bedroom, Emma faints when she sees the same man enter the room. She regains consciousness, lying on the huge bed, looking into the eyes of the most gorgeous man that she could ever imagine.
It was fortunate that Royal caught Emma before she hit the floor. He knew that his resemblance to his great-great-grandfather was uncanny, so was not surprised by Emma’s reaction. However, his own response to her closeness was not expected. His desire is acute. She feels so right in his arms and he knows that it will be difficult to keep a distance from her. Royal is well-aware of his family’s legacy and he has sworn never to let the curse touch another soul. He will fight his urgent longings, even if it kills him.
An intriguing pair of ghosts and other supernatural circumstances give this Civil-War based romance an interesting angle. Readers are taken on a trip back in time through the eyes of a modern-day couple and are given an insight into the conflict, with twentieth century knowledge. Medical practices and the slaughter of men are all seen as preventable by our heroes, but they are unable to do anything but watch events unfold because they do not wish to change the course of history. The development of romance and friction between the main characters is, for this reader, a little brief. Royal has become jaded with his inheritance, both the house and the legend. It is good to see Emma make him look at his good fortune through new eyes. Debbie Fritter places a modern day woman in some extraordinary circumstances and she must use all of her ingenuity to get through. Her strength of character is sure to take readers by surprise. A Legacy through Time is a well thought out tale, and it is obvious that the author has researched her time period thoroughly.
