Andrea Martins has found a new life. She hopes and prays she has left her old life behind her, but the secrets she is keeping might just come back to haunt her. Her health condition is very difficult to hide, especially from the doctor who is always on her back at her new job as hospital dietitian. Chief of Cardiac Services, Dr. Braeden Landry, is a pain in the neck, and one that she can't afford. She needs this job to pay off medical and legal bills from her past. Andrea is determined to do what she needs to do to stay on Dr. Landry's good side.

Braeden has only the hospital's best interests at heart when he finds Andrea cozying up to one of his patients, and he verbally berates her antics. The hospital has been down this road before and can't afford another lawsuit by some family member of a patient for unprofessional conduct by one of the employees. He is determined to keep a close eye on Andrea. Soon sparks fly between them, and attraction becomes hard to resist.

Be Still My Heart is a dynamic and intriguing tale of a woman who has not had many breaks in her life. Andrea is an engaging character that readers can't help but fall in love with. She is not one to complain about her problems, trying to face them head on and find a solution for them. Braeden is overbearing and comes off as egotistical, yet he only has the hospital's and his patients' best interests at heart. This reviewer didn't connect as well with him as she did with Andrea, but Braeden is still a well written and three-dimensional character. Braeden is as intrigued by Andrea's secrets as this reader was. The hints of these secrets that author Carol McPhee drops so enticingly are what kept this reviewer turning the pages. Kudos to Ms. McPhee for her way of unraveling this mystery.
