Edwardian Awakening
Due to her father’s death, Hannah Rollesby is forced to find work outside the home. She takes a job as a maid at the Paston family home. Her first day is uneventful and she performs her duties well. Hannah meets the other two maids, Amelia and Rose and seems to settle in. Enraptured by the beauty of the junior Mr. Paston, Hannah is thankful that she received this much-needed job. As time goes on, she finds that the two Masters of Paston Hall are not all that they seem. When a bizarre murder takes place, the entire house is turned upside down by the shock.
This is the first book that I have read by Emy Naso and it will not be the last. Edwardian Awakenings was a delightfully nasty tale about the consequences of living badly. I didn’t quite know what to expect throughout and I was pleased to see that I had not been able to anticipate the ending. There was an almost dreamy quality throughout the story that added to the undercurrent of menace that I felt the entire read. This was very well done and made a 36-page book a great read! I look forward to reading the rest of Emy Naso’s collection.
