Shadow of the Beast
Jenny Cameron was walking home one evening when she walked into a nightmare; wild dogs had slaughtered her twin brother and half sister. After this trauma, Jenny tried to go on with her life, but the nightmares wouldn’t let her. Night after night she finds herself dreaming about running through the night, hunting prey and reveling in the moonlight. After seeking professional help in a hope to stop her nightmares and the sudden sleepwalking, Jenny finds out something unbelievable about herself and her family.
Her father had walked out on them when he found out that his wife was pregnant. All this time, Jenny thought that he had left without a backward glance. When he appears asking her for help, Jenny is hard-pressed to find compassion for the monster he’s become.
This is a werewolf book like no other. Jenny isn’t a werewolf through any fault of her own; she didn’t go walking in moonlight, chase down a werewolf, go Buffy, or anything like that. She just is. There’s no community of werewolves to help her, no knowledge of werewolves at all, just a therapist with an open mind. The idea that werewolves are real has been around quite awhile, but never like this. Ms. Carter does an awesome job of creating characters that you would think to meet on the street. Shadow of the Beast is definitely a Recommended Read.
