The Saint and the Sinner
Having set her mind to avenging her fathers death, Courtney St. Claire unwittingly places herself in the middle of a police investigation. At the same time, she is reunited with her lost love, Jake Ciora. To her dismay, she finds out that Jake is now employed by her father’s murderer. Despite her belief that Jake is involved in criminal activity, she’s still attracted to him. As it turns out, Jake is deep undercover in the investigation into his partners’ murder and can’t afford to be distracted by the feelings he still has for Courtney after six years apart.
The Saint and The Sinner is filled with action and suspense. The two lead characters have a good deal of personal baggage that adds to the intensity of the plot. As their history is revealed, you want these two to find their way back together. As a unit, I supported this couple; however, individually they fell short of eliciting my emotional investment. The female lead character didn’t seem clearly defined. This character also continuously made foolish decisions that no intelligent person would repeat, and certainly not under dire circumstances. I had a difficult time grasping the male lead; at times he came across as shallow. Chardy Walker Liebs' writing ability was slightly undermined by the distraction of the numerous editing errors. Chardy Walker Lieb keeps this story interesting with a host of supporting characters. Overall, this is a good romantic suspense read, and it has all the classic components - a really sweet love story within an action-based plot. The Saint and the Sinner is suspenseful and engaging from the first to the last page, and just when you think you know what to expect, Chardy Walker Lieb adds a twist that culminates in a surprising end to this emotional story.
