The Visitor
Rebecca Tierney is discontent and depressed by her past and present situation. It’s been nine months since her husband’s death. Eric’s private plane, the plane he piloted, crashed. She is unable to get past the loss of her husband.
She awakes on the cold floor of the Lake Superior vacation home to find Eric… naked. Rebecca is scared and cautiously exhilarated at this second chance to have Eric back.
Rebecca shortly discovers, although his body is the same, he doesn’t remember the basics like eating, showering, or wearing clothing. He gets close to Rebecca then suddenly pulls away. She knows deep within her being this isn’t Eric. But she wants to believe he is back so badly, to have a second chance with her beloved.
The energy form using Eric’s body has a mission to complete within seven days. Time is running short. If he is unable to find what he needs for his world, a world of highly intelligent beings, his world will perish. He must complete his mission. Rebecca decides to help him if he will help her. She wants Eric’s child.
The Visitor is set in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in a small mining town on Lake Superior. Lake Superior is the deepest, coldest Great Lake; known for not giving up its dead. Barbara Raffin’s description of the area and small town life is right on the money. Kudos to Barbara for expressing and bringing the beauty of God’s Country and Lake Superior all wrapped up in a fantastic novel for readers. Although this is a Sci-fi romance, it is not overpoweringly sci-fi. I was thoroughly taken in and enjoyed the elements of alien forces and the relationships between the characters. Barbara Raffin weaves a lot of storyline into one book. Plots and subplots, main characters and minor characters are terrific. Very intriguing, kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. Even if you are not a Sci-Fi fan I encourage you to open The Visitor. It is an enjoyable suspenseful romantic read. The ending is pure satisfaction.
