The Misted Cliffs

In Catherine Asaro’s The Misted Cliffs, Princess Melody Dawnfield possesses the talent to avert a war; however her dreams will be forfeit.

Mel’s mage gift is erratic and increasing. While striving to understand and manage her abilities, she grapples with her attraction and trepidation of Cobalt. She perceives the light and compassion in him; nevertheless she dreads his yearning for conquest. Will Mel be able to heal Cobalt’s heart or will he give into his bloodlust?

Cobalt conceals his inner turmoil behind a cold and shuttered exterior. Believing himself evil and not worthy of love, he deems himself to be Cobalt the Dark, conqueror. The only method he knows to safeguard his love ones from his cruel grandfather is to defeat and vanquish different realms. Will Cobalt discern his own inner light and goodness before he is consumed by his restless craving to dominate?

The Misted Cliffs mesmerized me with a compelling and healing saga of love, acceptance, and malice. My heart broke for Cobalt and rejoiced in Mel’s love. Catherine Asaro evocatively and powerfully reveals how love mends a shattered soul despite the coldness of those around the injured psyche. I restlessly await the sequel and further explorations of Cobalt and Mel.

I wept for Cobalt and Mel as they struggled with their personal demons and qualms. I rejoiced with them as they fought for their love in the midst of his bitter and spiteful family. Catherine Asaro drew me into their world and I am sad to leave it.
