The Perfect Match

Plain Talk is a small magazine, renowned for its frank and revealing stories on controversial issues. Shadoe Donovan has just purchased Plain Talk, not only as an investment, but also to get a particular story written – a story that is close to his heart. Shadoe wants an exposé on the world of professional wrestling, and he wants it done by a fresh and unknown writer. After discussions with the magazine’s editor, he chooses Khristen Roberts, a woman who is currently a copy editor at Plain Talk. Khristen is on vacation right now, but the editor promises to recall her immediately, and get her started on the story. What Shadoe doesn’t know is that he is on the same flight to Hawaii as Khristen, so they will meet a lot sooner than he thinks!

I thought the premise of this story was intriguing, since I have a peripheral involvement with the world of professional wrestling – my brother once took lessons from The Great Moolah and briefly performed in the ring. Fritter is absolutely correct that the physical requirements and acting talent needed for this sort of performing are seriously underrated by the public that watches the sport, many of whom are caught by the gimmicks that can put the lives of the performers in jeopardy.

Shadoe’s motivation to reveal the sordid underbelly of the wrestling world is a powerful one. With this background, I was a bit disappointed in the plot line, which deals primarily with Shadoe and Khristen’s relationship, and leaves the exposé hanging in limbo. The scenes between the hero and heroine were great, although I did think that the rest of the narrative was a bit choppy and difficult to follow. I would rate this story a sweet romance, with kisses being almost the only physical expression of love between Shadoe and Khristen. All in all, I found the story intriguing, and would recommend it to those with an interest in professional wrestling.
