All Our Yesterdays: Japan

Installment number 7 in the All Our Yesterdays continuing series picks up where AOY: Switzerland left off.

Astrid and Duncan are beginning to discover just where the danger is coming from. These two, now lovers in the present, are Hoshi and Yemon in the past, in ancient Japan. Hoshi's father has died and her brother is not old enough yet, to assume his position as head of the household, putting them all in danger. To ensure their safety and avoid an undesirable marriage obligation, Hoshi must become a Samurai warrior. While preparing to take on her new role she meets Yemon, courtier of the Emperor, who has arrived at Hoshi's home to ask for the household’s allegiance. The age-old connection between these two is immediately recognized but once again there are others who will stop at no cost to achieve their own goals.

I love this series and have anxiously awaited each installment. The more I read of Astrid, the more I like of her; she is a strong and self assured heroine, more than a match for the sometimes arrogant and pushy Duncan. Don't get me wrong though, Duncan is not too shabby… in fact he is quite sexy! Ms. Walters never fails to deliver all the elements of a great read - passion, intrigue, and characters you want to get to know. Her glimpses into the past incarnations of Astrid and her lover are mini travelogues, with images so vivid it is easy to allow yourself to be swept into the past and into other lives. With only one more to go in this series it will harder than ever to wait for the next tale. Luckily the wait this time will be short!
