Charity Becker feels the weight of a presence in her dreams and in the waking hours. She worries about her safety and that of her small nephew staying the summer with her at their rented beach house - a house that some claim is haunted. This presence would never harm her, would it? Then her sister changes her plans and picks up her son, taking him to meet her newest fiancé, and Charity is left alone in the house. Her nephew has a strange message for her from his imaginary friend before he goes; it seems that “Lissa” thinks Charity will be staying with them “where she belongs”.

Jacob Kingsman can’t believe it; his cheating, lying wife is back. She’s so different though, claiming to be from another time and place, and when he sees her with their daughter Lissa he knows that whoever she is, she must stay. His Rose is so much more than she was then, more vibrant, more alive. The trust between them grows and flourishes until danger comes to their home, threatening to separate them once again.

Catching Shadows wraps multiple genres within its 89-page length, including time travel, white-knuckled suspense and ghostly paranormal. Jewel Adams writes an action-packed and powerful story that had me on the edge of my seat. Her characters are well-developed and realistic, and her grasp of the gamut of human emotions is dead-on. Catching Shadows is an interesting premise and a thrilling read.
