In Defense of Liberty

Mark Fields is a news anchor with a god complex and an agenda. He hates the new “redneck Republican” President, and uses his clout on the air to skew public opinion to his side of things, even at the expense of his job. He’ll sacrifice anything and everything in defense of liberty. When a couple of Democratic Senators turn up murdered, he smells a conspiracy and will follow any leads to see that the people responsible for the deaths are brought to justice. He knows he is in the right track when he is attacked so seriously that he is hospitalized. Then he gets an anonymous call from an informant and the pieces of this complex puzzle start to fall into place.

Chris Smith, a friend of Mark’s, is a covert operations professional in a bad situation. He’s being blackmailed to perform rogue hits on a variety of targets, using his expertise to advance someone’s political position. His sister, the President’s secretary, will die if he refuses his keeper’s demands. Then Chris finds himself in the middle of an assignment that goes horribly wrong when he's captured. He prepares himself for death, either from the torture or a bullet; a friend helps him out. Chris travels back to the U.S. and starts to see the underlying motivations and machinations hiding behind this dark scheme.
