Emma Bowers is starting over after the betrayal of her best friend and her man nearly brings her to her knees. She gets a new job in a new town. One night she is working late when she receives a disturbing call and hears the sound of breaking glass. Intriguing events follow, bringing an almost comedic flavor to this story.

Micah Johnson co-owns a construction company with his friend Ben and someone is undercutting them, stealing their bids right out from under them. Micah intends to get to the bottom of this whole mess, but can he expose the crook without endangering those whom he cares about? To make matters worse, he’s powerfully attracted to his new secretary. Even as he considers what to do about her, someone is watching from the shadows.

Promises, Promises pleases with lots of action, enjoyable characters, and a spooky stalker with a grudge. Irene Estep masterfully crafts the relationship between Micah and Emma, adding touches of humor to sweeten the pot as they get to know each other. The unique twist on the ending made for an intriguing period to this story; you think you know who the bad guys is, but you might be surprised. Promises, Promises proves that sometimes the source of malice comes from a direction we least expect.
