Dark Moon
Dr. Elise Hanover has just come face to face with both her most cherished dream and her biggest nightmare in the form of a single person, Nic Franklin. Seven years ago she was living the perfect life, pursuing her education to become a doctor and planning a future with Nic. Then one night, on a full moon, everything changed and all of her dreams were ripped away. Confused over what was happening to her and terrified of what she had done, she was unable to face Nic and the disgust she knew she would see in his eyes. She called the one person who would know what to do, Edward Mandenauer. Since that day, she has been isolated from the world doing research in an attempt to find a cure for the virus that causes lycanthropy.
Even though Nic knows that Elise works in the lab and he thinks he is prepared to see her again, he feels like he has been punched in the stomach when he comes face to face with the only woman he has ever loved. He’s not sure how, but she seems to be tied into the list of missing persons that he is investigating for the FBI. It’s immediately evident that the chemistry is still alive and well between the two of them and when the lab compound is blown to smithereens, it’s also evident that someone is trying to kill her. Can Nic find the culprit before he, or it, finds them?
Lori Handeland has an unmatched talent for immediately drawing you into the story and making you one with her characters. I have always found that stories of reunited lovers are the most poignant kind and this one is no different. After having seen glimpses of Elise in the two previous books in this series, I was very anxious for her story. The way that Elise left Nic seven years ago adds a lot of emotion and makes him VERY determined to learn the reasons behind her sudden departure. There are also a couple of surprises regarding the ever-present Edward Mandenauer, but I wouldn’t dream of giving those away. In Dark Moon, Ms. Handeland has produced another one to add to the keeper shelf and leaves me anxiously awaiting the next full moon.
