Devlin Barnett has been captured during a retaliation attack on his foster brother's clan. He awakens to find himself tied to a bed, with his wounds are being tended by the daughter of his nemesis, the Laird of the keep where he is now being held prisoner. Meghan Douglas' father is being held prisoner by the Earl of Ravenstone so when she finds a wounded Ravenstone warrior among her father's fallen men, she nurses him back to health with the intention of making a trade. The warrior refuses to give her his name and therefore he is an unknown enemy, but she finds herself strangely attracted to this man.

Devlin manages to escape the tender mercies of Meghan. He is given his freedom with the condition he bring Meghan to safety from the man trying to take over her father's keep and force her to become his bride. Devlin and Meghan find themselves on the run back toward his home and her father. What will happen when Meghan finds that the man she has fallen in love with is her father's most hated enemy and foster brother?

Through out Meghan's whole life she has been trained to hate the Earl of Ravenstone because her father feels he has been cheated out of the title himself. Meghan grew up thinking of Devlin as some sort of hateful monster. What incredible twists and turns these secrets bring upon these strong and misguided characters!

The sexual tension between Devlin and Meghan scorches the pages and keeps the reader wanting more. Ms. Jones' smooth and flowing prose make this book a quick read and left this reviewer breathless. Lose yourself in a past time in history. Let Meghan and Devlin fill your heart and mind with their tale of betrayal and lust that soon turns to trust and love. The Jewel and the Sword is highly recommended for historical romance lovers and richly deserving of a 5 angel rating.
