The First Grader from Outer Space

The first day of school is supposed to be a great experience for a five year old, but for Samantha Easton it is a nightmare. Because she is more intelligent than other kindergarten children Sam is placed in the most horrible and unthinkable place in her world…first grade. Sam doesn’t know anyone and is immediately singled out and picked on by the boys at her table. All Sam wants to do is go back to kindergarten where her friends are and be just like everyone else.

Her plan to get back into kindergarten backfires when she answers a question correctly. Sam realizes that she will never get to go to kindergarten and it saddens her. But, every cloud has a silver lining and Sam soon finds that being smart isn’t so bad especially when being smart opens the door to new friendships.

Oh how the life a child can be broken one minute and excel the next. The First Grader from Outer Space is a sweet story of how the differences in the life of child can make life sweet or sour. One minute Sam is bruised and weighed down by her intelligence and lifted up the next. I thought Sam to be a very special and strong character even for a five year old. Elly Sanders has done a wonderful job writing a short story for kids of all ages. If you have a little alien of your own I suggest you get a copy of The First Grader from Outer Space by Elly Sanders and enjoy this story together.
