Double Down

Skye grew up as a New York bookie’s daughter. The only thing she’s ever known is the life of a gambler. The entire time she’s trying to hide in the life of a gambler she has been blaming her father for her addiction. When a drunken binge brings her to Vegas and leaves her with an annulment from her father’s right-hand man, she decides to stay. Her best friend and Gamblers Anonymous sponsor, TD, has always told her that it’s all about taking one day at a time. It takes the death of a friend to send her to the desert to try and find herself. In the process she finds another lost soul and possibly her last chance at a ‘real’ life.

This was an extremely engaging book. The main characters were flawed people that reached out and grabbed you. I found myself rooting for Skye to get her bronze coin. I wanted to smack her father and ex for not understanding her problem. It was an insightful journey into the lives of fascinating people who weren’t perfect. The inside peeks into the world of organized gambling and pro-football were amazing. I also enjoyed the in-your-face style of writing that Ms. Hudson has. This was a great book that I will recommend to many of my friends. Well done!
