Show Me the Bling
How does one gorgeous man wind up in an AA meeting with no memory, sitting next to two hot women? Well…he falls out of a window during Mardi Gras, that’s how. For our mysterious hero, who shall remain nameless at this point, it’s all a simple walk in the park. He’s handsome, witty and more importantly well endowed. Who’s going to stop him from enjoying life, or more succinctly what’s to stop him from enjoying Brandy and Mandy, the two hot women sitting next to him? Definitely not the fact that he has no idea who in the heck he is…that’s for dang sure.
For the amnesiac Greek God of wine and women, Dionysus, losing his memory can’t impede on the fun, even if he can’t remember his own name. He’s someone who takes what life offers at a moment’s notice and enjoys every single second while it happens. Giving and receiving pleasure is his forte, but strangely there’s something about Mandy that strikes him, something that makes him lay down his momentary pleasure. Could it be true love? With Dionysus, aka Dennis or Big D, it’s hard to tell.
There are parts of this novella that are laugh out loud funny. Cyndi Redding does a wonderful job of creating a believable fantasy set smack dab in contemporary New Orleans. Her use of the first person is particularly strong and well put. Add this with the everyday trials of a Greek God without a clue to who he is, and the recipe for laughs is there. Unfortunately, for this reviewer, the constant amount of intrepid and outlandish circumstances made the tale a bit dull. Additionally, the fundamental connection between the two main characters was absent in the context of the love story. As a fun contemporary novella this would have been great, but as a contemporary romance it fell short of the mark by a wide margin.
