Chains of Jericho

Dr. Maya Sheldon defines dedication, as year after year she spends more time at work than she does on anything else, including her non-existent sex life. She’s a pediatric oncologist, trying to save the life of every child in her care. She’s a scientist first and foremost and doesn’t believe in anything that can’t be explained with scientific data, so that puts the paranormal at the top of her list of nonsense. It’s her single-minded help others first attitude that places her up-close and personal with the kind of man we can only dream about. Declan Jericho is six feet four inches of well-toned sex appeal, who also happens to be a vampire. Dec has his own set of medical problems that he believes require the very skills Maya has spent her life perfecting and for that reason he’s determined to have her. When the two meet, the circumstances are criminal, but then so is the immediate sexual attraction. A strictly professional relationship becomes more personal than either expects.

Chains of Jericho has a great basic storyline and Vivien Dean has a writing style that I thoroughly enjoy. Dean presents at a fabulous pace, with a witty dialogue that keeps the story moving. It’s for this reason that I was so invested in the story. The characters however left something to be desired. Dec is a vampire, who mid way through the story loses his appeal. He becomes wimpy and at times desperate. Maya is a brilliant physician who repeatedly makes dumb choices that you just can’t believe of someone so intelligent. It makes it hard to root for her. Thankfully Dean never misses a beat with the sex though; she builds the sexual tension with a little internal denial and external complications. The sex is intense, sensual and a tasteful introduction to light BDSM. In spite of the inconsistencies in the characters, Dean pulls it together with her captivating writing style that thankfully never fails, in fact a couple times I found myself laughing out loud. This is a great read and if you like your men on the sensitive side, you’ll enjoy Chains of Jericho even more.
