Asteroid 6969 - Siren’s Dance

Nik Nyuth, an intergalactic shipping heir, finds more than sex--what he was looking for--on Asteroid 6969. Nik is enticed by a veiled dancer, beautiful Shaya Maureau. She’ll give him anything but her eyes, her soul. That is her one rule and she must protect herself. Abandoned by her own people on the planet of Therro, on the grounds of being half healer/half human, and not a great healer at that, she is banished to Asteroid 6969, a sinful destructive place with no sun, no real food and no morals; a place where money will buy you anything. She must live alone and protect herself, trusting no one, except her roommate Cassie.

Nik sweeps Shaya off her feet literally, and convinces her to spend a day with him. Shaya cannot refuse the amount of money, Nik’s eyes, nor his beautiful body. Shaya is astounded by Nik’s chivalry; he is different than any other male she’s encountered. Nik wants more than her body, he wants all of her. Nik convinces Shaya to leave her Asteroid 6969 lifestyle and come back with him to Earth--Paradise--where women don’t have to sell themselves to make a living.

Nik persuades Shaya that his intentions are on the up and up. Shaya finally agrees. What does she have to lose, right? Her roommate and only friend on Asteroid 6969- Cassie, warns her that this man may be luring her to an untimely death, such has happened before. But Nik invites Cassie to come along also.

Nik shows Shaya and Cassie the Paradise called Earth. But Shaya is still not totally trusting Nik with her life. Shaya and Cassie go out to seek work and get caught in something else. When Shaya’s healing powers are needed, she doesn’t believe she can use them, but tries for the sake of her friend. She discovers her strength in helping others through tough times.

Shaya then reveals to Nik something about his family. Nik is skeptical, but the truth is found out and that makes Shaya and Nik’s trust for each other more concrete. Now they must rely only on each other.

Tawny Taylor is very creative with Siren’s Dance. The futuristic--sci-fi twist really lends an interesting element to this story. There is more to this story than meets the eye. At first glance you may think this is a fluffy erotic-sex tale. Although the erotic love scenes leave nothing to the imagination, there’s more to the story. Don’t be misled; there is depth in Shaya and Nik’s characters and a few surprises along the way. I didn’t expect the story to go where it headed and that is what made it an enjoyable read. I loved the way Tawny Taylor reveals the connection and commitment of Shaya and Nik’s relationship and how it develops. Siren’s Dance is my first Tawny Taylor and I am happy to say not my last! I’m looking forward to reading more by this diverse author.
