Illegal Pursuit
Kathrin Cross, a Psi Section investigator, can’t believe it when she hears Josef Travinski is being paroled. Not only did he murder her sister, he mentally and physically abused another friend, a friend she believes he’s holding prisoner somewhere. She decides to use her special abilities of telepathy and empathy to watch him and get enough information to arrest him again. But when she puts herself in danger, as well as a compromising position professionally, she turns to the only person she truly trusts, her partner Jack Peterson. Jack can’t believe it when Kathrin pursues her investigation of Travinski. His last partner went rogue, which resulted in the development of Jack’s psi abilities, and he’s afraid Kathrin will do the same. He agrees to help her, hoping that once she opens herself up for help professionally, she’ll also open herself personally. But first they must stop Travinski and his evil plan to rid the universe of anyone with psi abilities.
I thoroughly enjoyed Illegal Pursuit. Jack and Kathrin are well matched. Their past friendship gives them each an insight into the other’s hopes and fears. Kathrin has closed herself off emotionally in order to try and protect herself. But Jack is persistent. He’s settled for friendship and partnership for years because he knows that’s all she could handle. However, when she asks for more, he’s not above using that plea for help as a means to break through her self imposed barriers. They learn to trust each other physically and emotionally on their quest to stop Travinski. Their psi abilities are described in an interesting and plausible manner. Ms. Mitchell skillfully blends suspense and sexual tension in this paranormal story and leaves you satisfied but eager for more.
