Willing Accomplice

Ross Maddigan may have been convicted of murder, but he knows that he was not responsible and is determined to expose the truth. With his imprisonment over, he resolutely tracks down his partner’s ex-wife, Eve Andrews. He will use her if need be in order to find the man that he believes betrayed him. As their search intensifies and the danger closes in around them, Eve goes from being a reluctant companion to being his Willing Accomplice. When all is said and done, will these two discover a future together or will the web around them see them either sent to jail or killed?

Willing Accomplice is formed on the interesting premise of a man searching for the truth that was hidden from the justice system years ago. This idea is easily believable and Doreen Roberts has presented it with the added element of the suppressed desire between the two main characters. Eve and Ross both have an innate sense of justice that can’t ignore the fact that Ross was sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. Their search to discover the truth is plagued by an antagonist that seems to always be one step ahead of them and emotions that both know have no place in their current situation. The characters are not overly developed, but the author does well with explanations and personal reflections that explain the characters’ feelings and fears. As they narrow their search and list of possible suspects, the net of exposure closes in around them and builds tension for the readers. The author does well hinting at the culprit behind all the events, but it! won’t be until the final pages that readers are able to confirm their suspicions and discover the motivation that saw Ross sent to prison all those years ago.
