Lyla’s Song
Once in a while Lyla rents out her house to make extra money and her boarders this time were two men, Mr. Fletcher and Mr. Sam Thomas. Meeting and spending time with them, she feels something isn’t right, that there is a secret. She feels drawn to Sam, to the music he plays, and if looks were anything to go by, he was drawn to her and when he tells her that he and Fletch aren’t really gay, she wonders about a summer fling with Sam. But it seems the town, especially her father-in-law Dub and her friend Tibs, want to put their two cents into her affairs and try to tell her what to do.
Sam Thomas, known world wide as “T” lead singer for BCA, Bone-Cold Alive, had just come out of rehab and Fletch has decided they needed to stay out in the boondocks for three weeks incognito before the band meets up to start touring again. Sam isn’t sure he can handle it for three weeks, but when he finds the song called Lyla in a hymnal and plays it, he realizes it could win him another Grammy. He has to get Lyla to let him buy it, only she turns him down. Then he makes a stupid bet with Fletch about getting Lyla to go on a date with him, only once he starts to get to know her and play the piano with her, he realizes that she owns him and his soul. The bet no longer mattered and Sam knows he has to tell Lyla the truth. But will the truth drive her away or is her love strong enough to accept him now that he’s changed?
This is a story of how a man who hit rock bottom and is slowly making his way back and finds the other half of himself. Ms. Sisk has written a lovely story that will take the reader on a journey with these two characters. The author has made this ride so smooth and emotional that the readers can feel the heat from the beginning between Sam and Lyla. The secondary characters are just as fleshed out and entertaining as the main characters.
