Lion in the Shadows

Lani loves to go caving, but the death of a local teen in a cave ensures that her caving experience won’t be blissful as she is accustomed to. She’s called in to rescue the boy from the cave, but what she discovers is more disturbing than she could ever have imagined. The boy is dead and hiding in the shadows in a large mountain lion, a lion that more than likely attacked him. Lani is freaking out, but luckily, Rafael Chavez is there to make sure that her ascent is a safe one.

Rafe hates caves, but for Lani, he is willing to risk anything. Too bad she doesn’t feel the same way. She keeps pushing him away, when all he wants to do is give her his heart. Though Rafe doesn’t know how to get Lani to open up, now that he has helped her from the cave, he has no intention of letting her lock him out of her home…or her heart.

Lani invites Rafe to her home against her better judgment. But she can’t resist what he does to her, how he makes her feel. Their night together shows Lani that she can finally give not only Rafe a chance but also give their relationship a chance. She intends to tell Rafe about her childhood, the hardships she faced from an alcoholic father. She wants him to truly know her so he can make the decision whether to stay or go. Rafe has no intention of leaving Lani, but when the mystery surrounding the cave and the mountain lion becomes more dangerous, he fears the only way to keep Lani safe is to stay away from her. But Lani has grown stronger with the help of Rafe’s love and she has no intention of being left behind. Watch this duo work together to figure out exactly what is going on.

Lion In the Shadows is a fast-paced and edgy mystery that features a very erotic romance. Neither the romance nor paranormal facet of the story is neglected as Ms. Devlin does a great job of combining a developing mystery with a developing romance. I was intrigued by how the author would solve the mystery, and I wasn’t let down. There are some tough decisions to be faced by these characters, but they face these decisions with stoicism, resolve, and a binding love for each other. This is a great shape-shifter story that will have you on the edge of your seats from the moment Lani steps foot in the cave. A delightful hero and heroine combined with a legendary mystery and a strong attraction is a sure recipe for reading fun.
