Lyric’s Cop
Robbery is a despicable crime, but one of the worst kinds of robbery involves the stealing of someone’s beloved pet. This is just the kind of crime that Lyric Montgomery finds herself involved in. When miniature dachshunds start disappearing, Lyric is called in to try to solve the crime. Lyric works for Crime Tells, the business her grandfather Bulldog Montgomery started after his retirement. Lyric’s specialty is pet crimes and the loss of the dachshunds is something that touches her like no other case. Anna Simmons is one of the first victims, and when Lyric contacts the elderly woman; Anna knows that Lyric is just the person to save her dogs.
Too bad Anna’s grandson Kieran Burke doesn’t agree. As a vice cop, Kieran knows he can solve the crime fine without any outside help, but Anna refuses. She wants Lyric’s help and she intends to have it. Kieran wouldn’t be so dead set against working with Lyric if he hadn’t fallen in heavy lust with her from the moment he’d first laid eyes on her. She’s a hellion, a woman with fire in her eyes and lust in her soul, the perfect woman in Kieran’s eyes. Kieran is a very dominant, alpha male who wants to take control of the case. Lyric sweetly agrees to his rules, then proceeds to go her own way, scaring Kieran to no end when she does her own investigating into one of the criminals, a hardened man who isn’t afraid to use violence on women.
As the case heats up and the initial crime turns into something much worse, both Lyric and Kieran do their share of investigating. Soon, the missing dachshunds lead to puppy mills and animal research. Will the dogs be rescued before it’s too late?
Lyric’s Cop is a well written, fast-paced, and very erotic mystery story. The erotic tension between Kieran and Lyric is scorching, while the mystery surrounding the dogs is heart-wrenching while at the same time very interesting. Any pet owner will identify with the fear that the victims have upon losing their pets, the sadness and horror that ensues when a member of the family is stolen. Ms. Strong accurately captures the pain that comes with knowing one’s pet has been stolen, just as she accurately captures many of the details that are part of the puppy mill process. It seems no stone was left unturned in her research, making Lyric’s Cop an even stronger piece of storytelling.
Nonetheless, it is the sexual heat and budding love between Kieran and Lyric that will keep you reading. Their sparring and sexual banter is enough to have you rolling on the floor in laughter, while also keeping you on the edge of your seat to see how their courtship plays out. These are two likable and relatable characters with strong moral compasses and caring personalities to carry them through the tough moments. In addition to the stellar protagonists, the cast of secondary characters, including Lyric’s sisters and Kieran’s cop buddies, will have you hoping for a sequel or two to this story.
Lyric’s Cop is another must-read Jory Strong story and thus deserves Fallen Angel Reviews’ highest accolade, that of a recommended read.
