Friendly Fire

This takes place immediately after Ms. Surbeck’s She Blinded Me with Science…Fiction.

Kenny wants someone to like him for who he really is, not for who he plays on TV. Kenny can only have fun when he’s simming as Gardok, Cardassian first mate of the Cha’ Do. When his dream woman ends up being a fraud and he is pressured to go out with some other con participants, Kenny sees a woman that stops him in his tracks.

Ivy is a blackjack dealer who loves to sim as a Ferengi because she likes their business-sense. She has admired Kenny from afar for a few cons and decides to take action. She wants to get laid. After all signals have been received, the two of them decide to go to his room and find out if the sparks lie.

This was a fun peek into the sci-fi con life. I’ve yet to attend, but I loved this glimpse into the subculture of a con. Friendly Fire was a quick story about the beginning of what may be a wonderful relationship. I hope that Ms. Surbeck re-visits this couple in the future. I’m curious to see if Ivy can accept Kenny for himself. I’d also like to see more stories set at the cons.
