Ancient Blood 7: Immaculate
This is book seven in the Ancient Blood series and should be read in order.
Mara has been researching vampires and werewolves for a year and still hasn’t found what she’s looking for. She was attacked and can’t remember anything but brief flashes. Mara thinks she’s losing her mind when the flashes begin to coalesce into a man with glowing eyes biting her with fangs and raping her essence as well as her body. Her research takes her from the US to Europe where she travels from France to Romania only to end up in Spain. While in Madrid, she meets a strange man who offers to translate an obscure dialect of Latin.
Adam can’t figure out what drew him to Mara, but enjoys every second he has with her. When Mara tells him about her attack, Adam can’t believe how strong she is to have survived it. He wonders if she will ever be able to accept that all vampires are not evil. Adam is an Immaculate vampire, a vampire born, not made. Not only is he an Immaculate, but he is the Liberator, the vampire prophesied to destroy the First Father, the most evil of vampires.
What follows is a test of their strength of mind and the strength of their love for each other.
This was an amazing continuation of a very well-written series. I love the new mythology that Ms. Hill has woven into these books. The twist on the Atlantis myth was fabulous as well. The idea of vampires being born with super supernatural powers is great fun. Adam was a strong character who was abused as a child and had serious issues regarding his vampire nature. Mara was also a strong character that took what happened to her and kept it from destroying her. Instead, she used it to become stronger. The different relationships in this book were all very well dealt with. I think that the biggest reason I gave this book 5 Angels was the story. It was just excellent. I hope that Ms. Hill takes this ending and continues to chronicle the aftermath of this battle between good and evil.
