Wicked Women Whodunit
In Ten Little Idiots, MaryJanice Davidson hits another home run. Take ten people who don’t know each other, stick them on an island and cut them off from the mainland. After the storm begins in earnest, someone is murdered. How do you find out about the murder? The murderer tells you!
In this story, the murderer isn’t the mystery, the victim is! I really got a kick out of this twist. Once again we are treated by Ms. Davidson’s quirky sense of humor. The ending is what every mystery ending should be, a surprise.
Amy Garvey takes you to Churchville in Single White Dead Guy and introduces you to Lanie Burke. Lanie is escaping her sister and finds herself in bigger trouble than she left behind. When she finds her one-night stand on her back porch less than healthy, she is forced to play Nancy Drew.
This was a lot of fun and again, the twist is what makes the story.
Fast Boys by Jennifer Apodaca immerses you in the racing world of fast cars, fast men, and even faster women. When Tess’s ‘boyfriend’ sets her up to get the dirt on her fantasy man, Ark Underwood, she gets understandably upset. When the same ‘boyfriend’ ends up dead in a compromising position in Ark’s hotel bedroom, the weekend takes a menacing turn.
I have never read a story involving the NASCAR community. I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely read more stories dealing with the races, if they’re by Ms. Apodaca. She did a good job explaining things to rookies without preaching.
Three Men and a Body by Nancy J. Cohen was a fun story that visited a reality show in which contestants had the job of getting a bed-and-breakfast up and running in a week. When the contestants start dying the ratings start going up. Fellow contestants Heather and Rex are thrown together and sparks fly, can they win while keeping their lives?
I enjoyed this story about a reality show, especially being a reality show junkie myself. The characters were true to the reality-show feel. I was almost sorry to see this story end. I hope that Ms. Cohen writes more stories like this.
Wicked Women Whodunit was a fun collection that fused romance and murder in a light-hearted way. I didn’t think that would be possible. As a whole, this was a well-written and fun book. Thank you to all of the authors for a fun read.
