Medical researcher Holly Heart’s only passion in life is continuing her father’s work in genetic replacement therapy. That is, until she meets Mason Alexander. The tall, dark and virile man inspires more passion in Holly than she’s ever experienced. Their meeting is not the accident it appears to be. Mason is a Black Knight, an elite fighting force of super soldiers. He’s been assigned to protect Holly and her research at any cost.

The Black Knights were unwittingly injected with altered genes as part of a government project to create superior troops. What the government didn’t count on was exactly what an evil human mind could do with super-human power. A group of the altered soldiers broke out and formed the Arions, power hungry monsters that will stop at nothing short of total world domination. Both the government and the Arions want Holly’s research. It is Mason’s job to see that it gets into the right hands.

Holly and Mason are equally aware of the immediate chemistry between them, but neither knows whether or not to trust it. Mason especially feels torn. First, Holly is supposed to be his assignment and, second, how can any woman love him after finding out what he really is?

The Protector blew me away with its action and intrigue, but even more thrilling was the passion between Mason and Holly. Yes, the pair heat up the sheets a lot, but the mental and emotional connection between them was even more intense. I love reading about characters who discover love after giving any hope for it.

Lisa Renee Jones has written a perfect blend of erotic romance and suspense that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat while reaching for a cold drink. The Protector is the first in what I hope to be a very long Underground Guardians series. There are several more sexy Black Knights that deserve their own story and I, for one, can’t wait to get my hands on them! I can’t recommend the Protector highly enough!
