Do You Believe?
Rose Early has arrived in England searching for her sister, Joan who has disappeared. Her sister has been reading a book by V.F. (Vic) Drummond, making notations all over the pages, so Rose decides to go in search of the mysterious Mr. Drummond. Rose is dismayed that he pretended to be someone else at their initial meeting but he decides to help her with her search.
Rose has always played second banana to her sister. Her perception of herself has been colored by that treatment. Rose is a lovely woman who cares and takes an interest in people. She isn’t a shallow person but has tremendous depth. Rose is an extremely talented photographer. Vic is a man who has experienced life’s ups and downs. He is a famous and very successful horror novelist but his marriage ended in a divorce. On the surface, these two don’t seem to have much in common but the sexual attraction is very strong and they find love together. Rose and Vic are multi-dimensional and fully realized characters. The search for Joan not only brings them closer together but also forces them to face the evil lurking around them.
The element of evil runs through this book. It seems to wind itself around the characters and their actions. The storyline is quite complex as the author weaves the “evil” aspect with the love story unfolding between Rose and Vic. The only bump this reader came across was the hero having a physical relationship with Rose’s sister -- a storyline that this reader have never enjoyed. Otherwise this was a suspenseful and fast-paced book where the author is able to draw the reader into her story until the last page.
