Family Harmony
Note: This book is part two of Acting Like Family. This book does mention situations and several characters from Acting Like Family. However, this reviewer believes this story may be read as a stand-alone book.
Our hero, Laken Montgomery, is an alpha hero who has a cool exterior that hides a wall of steel where most people don’t bother to look, deep inside. He has always had women at his beck and call and has never needed any of them to complete himself. However since his twin brother found a mate, Laken’s life is looking pretty empty. Then Mya Brooks crosses his path, with her outstanding backside, and his world is turned upside down.
Mya Brooks is on the run with her brother Miles, and has been since she was a child. She and her brother have stayed a step ahead of their parents, who exploited them as children and never bothered to take care of them. In an act of desperation they broke away from their parents and fled into the night. They have survived the past ten years by taking odd jobs, and staying under the radar, working stage lights for clubs and shows. Living in fear and constantly looking over their shoulder, has made their life chaotic but they have always depended on each other and this has brought a measure of happiness for them.
The real adventure begins as Laken and Mya’s relationship develops. We see Laken’s jealousy and alpha dominance emerging and clashing with Mya’s fragile state of mind. Unfortunately for him, Mya has dealt with some serious debilitating situations in her past that have left lasting damage that neither of them is sure how to deal with. When Laken’s brother, Riker arrives on the scene with his mate, he ends up scaring Mya and releasing Laken’s latent jealousy. This misunderstanding ends up causing a serious rift in their fledgling relationship and Mya then flees from Laken. Laken attempts to give Mya time to forgive him and maybe give him a second chance. Unfortunately they don’t have a lot of time because the villain of the piece, who intends to harm Mya, comes into the story with a big bang.
This reviewer absolutely enjoyed this story. This reviewer cried throughout the reading of this story and laughed at the English slang translations. Mya and Laken had loads of adventure and yet they also dealt with serious situations that wrung all aspects of the emotional spectrum from the reader. This story shows the reader how family, even during conflict, can band together and assist each other no matter what past differences they have had. This story is by no means a light-hearted read, but it is definitely a page-turner and worth the purchase price, for a great way to pass the time. There were some aspects that some may find unappealing, like the hero forcing himself upon the heroine. However, this reviewer believed this part was necessary to the completion and enhancement of the story and that the author handled it very tastefully and didn’t linger over these situations.
