Dark Moon

In a world of monsters and Jager-Suchers, one woman has made it her mission to try and find a cure for an affliction that sees men lose their souls and become living nightmares. Not only does she work for the good of men, but for her own salvation, for every month when the moon is full, Dr. Elise Hanover changes.

A surprise visit from the only man she has ever loved, FBI Agent Nic Franklin, begins a journey unlike any Elise could have imagined. When her laboratory is destroyed and someone or something tries to kill her, Elise has no choice but to take Nic and head for Fairhaven and the elite of the Jager-Suchers. Elise and Nic soon join forces as the townspeople are being murdered and the bodies keep disappearing. As they delve deeper into the mystery surrounding the town, Elise and Nic are helpless to resist the passion that flares between them. Yet, how will Nic react when he discovers Elise’s true nature? Even as Elise delights in the passion she discovers with Nic, she is aware that an ever present evil is closing in around them. Somehow she is connected to it, but can she discover the truth before the Dark Moon rises?

Lori Handeland’s latest offering, Dark Moon, is a riveting continuation to her werewolf series. Readers have glimpsed the brilliant, yet elusive Dr. Elise Hanover is the previous installments, Blue Moon and Hunter’s Moon. Finally meeting the woman behind the lab coat is well worth the wait and experiencing her story lives up to the impressive standard established by Ms. Handeland’s writing

Ms. Handeland displays a talent for creating characters that are original and identifiable to the reader. As Nic and Elise come to terms with the past and present, readers can’t help but understand their hesitation while still hoping that they will find a future. The passion that flares between them is hot, but made even better by the love that lies hidden beneath the surface. The author brings back readers’ favorite characters from the past two books to inject humor, insight, and at times some much needed muscle as the battle between good and evil intensifies. The Ojibwe lore that is presented is imaginative and creates an imagery that compliments the author’s style. As the author slowly reveals the role Elise is to play and the evil that is growing with the dark moon’s rising, readers will be riveted by plot. Ms. Handeland’s styling and creativity ensure that Dark Moon, though third in the series, can be read as a stand alone work. Lori Handeland has once again delivered a remarkable werewolf tale that is a superb addition to the genre. Fans of this genre won’t want to miss out on this paranormal treat.
