Silver’s Bane

Both the Otherworld, home of the Sidhes (Faeries), and the Shadowlands, home of the mortals, face immense danger. Salvation lies in the hands of three women – Nessa, a blacksmith’s daughter, Cecily, wife of the deceased Duke of Gar, and Delphinea, future Queen of the Otherworld.

With the Silver Caul in the mortal realm, the Otherworld is open and vulnerable to attack from the horrendous Goblin King and his minions. Even worse is the mortal Cadwyr who has the Caul in his possession, with evil plans in the works. Nessa, Cecily, and Delphinea must work to return the Caul to the Otherworld so that it may be destroyed and peace returned to both lands. Enemies rise from every corner, thwarting their attempts at every turn. It is a race against time and both sides suffer great loss in the process.

Each of these ladies has much at stake, but one must be willing to make a sacrifice for the greater good. Families, love, even life, mean little in this battle of good and evil. Who will reign surpreme?

The second in a trilogy, Silver’s Bane continues the saga started in Silver’s Edge. Anne Kelleher is a master at creating fantasy worlds and I found myself immersed in the pages from the beginning. This story is told using the point of view of many different characters, but I found it very easy to follow. The plot is extremely detailed, leaving no question as to what is happening as the story unfolds. Although romance is not the main focus of the book, it was weaved in at just the right moments and was a welcome change in the overall serious tone of the book. I eagerly await the conclusion of this trilogy, Silver’s Lure.
