Ten Thousand Angels

Rachel Bowers has died. She was an elderly woman who rented a small cabin from Matt Stevens, and the only person that Matt has let get close to him since the death of his wife and son three years ago. Now three weeks later Rachel's beloved granddaughter has finally come to see her grandmother. To little to late as far as Matt is concerned. He is bitter and angry not only at Kate Alexander but also at God. Matt isn't so sure he even believes in God anymore.

Kate has just come out of an abusive relationship and has discovered she is pregnant by her abuser. She isn't sure if she wants to keep her baby, but she is sure that she can find peace with the one person she has left in the world. The grandmother she loves. Kate is devastated to find that her grandmother has passed away a mere three weeks ago.

When Kate faints on Matt's doorstep and he discovers she is gravely ill and might lose her baby, he is compelled against his wishes by Denny, the small town's doctor and Matt's best friend, to take her into his home and take care of her as she fights for her life. While Matt heals her body can Kate mend Matt's heart?

Ten Thousand Angels is a heartwarming as well as a heart-wrenching tale of second chances and faith tried and tested. Matt first blamed himself and then God for the accident that killed the wife he no longer loved and had asked for a divorce, and his son Sammy, whom she was trying to take away. Matt is sure that there just couldn't be a God if such suffering existed in this world. Kate has had a lot of loss and suffering herself, but unlike Matt, it was clinging to her faith that carried her through. These characters are well scripted and will worm their way into the reader's heart with their unbearable pain. Two souls with so much anguish can only find comfort in each other. Kate heals Matt's soul as Matt heals Kate's heart.

While the plot is believable and intriguing, this reviewer found several instances where the story line was quite unbelievable. Even in the rugged mountains of Colorado a country doctor would not leave a deathly ill pregnant woman in home and care of a man who has absolutely no medical training whatsoever. Especially when there are emergency medical services are available that are utilized later in the book. This might seem like a small thing, but this reviewer just couldn't get passed it. Also author Mary Eason's prose didn't flow smoothly on occasion and that detracted from the tale.

All in all, the lessons learned in Ten Thousand Angels make this story a worthwhile read. This reviewer recommends this book as a wonderful heartwarming tale of faith for all inspirational romance lovers out there.
