The Passing Of Paradise
When Kendra was little, like most girls she dreamed of her wedding day. She was brought up in a Christian home with impeccable values and morals. On her wedding day, she would wear white and deserve to do so. When Kendra met Keith for the first time, she knew he was the groom of her dreams.
Keith grew up with a cold and abusive father. In the past he has suffered from bouts of temporary insanity and rage that he was unable to control. Knowing that Kendra is a gentle soul, he keeps this part of himself hidden from her as best he can. Kendra is so in love with Keith that the few glimpses of his inner-turmoil that he allows her to see are brushed aside when he whispers words of love and devotion to her. But just how far will Keith's temper episodes go before Kendra decides enough is enough? And who will get hurt in the process?
The Passing Of Paradise is set in the 1950's in Oklahoma. This was a time when divorce still wasn't prominent and was frowned upon, especially in Kendra's family. Her parents are devoted and faithful Christians that have brought their children up to believe that the marital vows are sacred and are to be kept until death. What a beautiful and inspirational theory until something dreadful happens within a marriage. The Passing Of Paradise is a tale about this very question.
The characters in The Passing Of Paradise are multi-dimensional and exceptionally well written. The reader can't help but fall in love with the sweet spirits of Kendra and her family. They are a family of wonderful faith and beliefs. Kendra is the kind of daughter that parents dream off. Keith is one of those characters that, while you dislike him, you can't help but pity and sympathize with him.
Through most of the book the prose of author Ms. Lemmons is thoughtful and believable. This reviewer thoroughly enjoyed the first part of the book and the story line is interesting and intriguing. The prose deviates at the end, but readers who are caught up in Kendra’s story will be compelled to keep reading. There are elements of the story that do not seem to belong and the prose in the latter part of the book is stilted and does not flow smoothly, especially the dialogue between the characters. Over all, this reviewer recommends this book to Inspirational lovers out there. Take a look at Kendra's life. You won't be disappointed in her standing up for her morals and her beliefs.
