Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?

Because the world ran out of lemons making up these jokes. ~ Lucinda Betts

My dishes have more class than my tongue. My dishes are for good food only. My tongue will eat any ole thing! Just ask my husband… ~ Jade Lee

Who knows why big business does anything???? It's gotta be affecting the bottom line somewhere. ~ Karen Kay

Because we drink lemon juice. Ever eaten a real lemon? *puckers* they have to make give it something artificial to make it palatable. ~ Mechele Armstrong

Huh? Where do you buy your lemons from? ~ Maggie Nash

Would you want to drink dishwashing liquid that was fake? ~ Michelle M. Pillow

Good question. I only know that gin goes better with the first one. After two or three of 'em, who cares? ~ Sahara Kelly

Dishes deserve better treatment than our taste buds apparently. ~ Jenna Leigh

I am scratching my head over that one. ~ Savannah Black

Artificial flavors and preservatives keep us looking young. Look at Twinkies. They have an unlimited shelf life. So with my 100% Twinkie diet, I plan to live forever. ~ Kimber Chin

Unfortunately, my answer for this one isn't funny. Citric acid varies with lemons and that gives lemons their flavor. Since lemon juice bottlers can't depend on the quality of the acid in lemons they add flavoring. Dishwashing detergent advertisement made with lemon juice and a little acid will cut the grease so, what the heck. The quality of the lemons don't matter. (As you can tell, this one bothers me.) ~ Allison Knight

It is a clever marketing tool to get kids to lick their plates clean so they get the proper nutrition. ~ Titania Ladley

Who wants lemonade that tastes like soap? ~ Ciara Gold

~ Reader Question & Answers from November ~

With the holidays approaching, what is your favorite holiday tradition?

My son is now almost 21, but being with him to open presents on Christmas morning is still my most treasured tradition. Also candlelight Christmas Eve services. ~ Debi V.

My 2 teenage daughters and I always make a bunch of decorated Christmas cookies to share with the family. ~ Rhonda B.

I LOVE Christmas! With my kids it's like being a kid again seeing all the lights and everything with new eyes. ~ Jaycee.

Favorite holiday tradition is driving around with my kids to see all the neighborhood Christmas decorations, then coming home to hot chocolate and cookies while we watch The Christmas Story ( for the millionth time). ~ Cathy M.

Congratulations to Debi and Rhonda who won their choice of eBooks from Rosa Romance!

Name a TV show you watch that is a guilty pleasure and can't be missed?

You know, a month ago I would have told you I don't watch enough TV to become addicted. But about a month ago, some friends talked me into watching Moonlight on Friday nights…that's all it took. I am totally hooked on that sexy Vampire!! Alex O'Loughlin is my new hero! I can NOT get enough of Moonlight!

You're currently working on becoming a published N.Y. author. What factor will determine you've finally made it to the top, book on the New York Time's bestseller's list or maybe opening up the USA today and seeing your name in print under the top 100?

Yes, on all the above. Heehee Really, I just want a chance to run with the big guys. If I don't make it clear to the top, that's okay, I'll know I tried my hardest. I just want to be given that chance. Is that so much to ask? *grins*

Thinking back, which Christmas would win the top prize as the best one ever?

Believe it or not, it would have to be the Christmas when my husband was out of work and all I could find was a part time job. We had two daughters and we knew our Christmas would be very slim since my family (and my DH's family) could not help us out, either. A few families in our church gave my family a great Christmas. They even brought us food. They'd leave the packages on our front porch, ring the doorbell and run. To this day I still don't know who they were, but it's a year I'll never forget. The spirit of Christmas was so strong, I think I cried every day in December. Even now I get tears in my eyes remembering.

Your upcoming release from The Wild Rose Press, Danger in Her Arms has a blurb that left me salivating. I'm sure FAR readers would love to know what we can expect from Taylor & Cory's story.

You can expect to be on the edge of your seat during this wild ride. Readers can also expect to take a cold shower after a few of my sex scenes… heeheee It wouldn't be a Phyllis Campbell book unless it has a lot of sexual tension. Taylor and Cory had a HOT love affair three years prior to this story. She actually thought Cory was dead because she'd witnessed him shot and falling over a cliff. But now he's back in her life…and he's her bodyguard. Problem is, she doesn't trust him. The day she thought he'd died was the day she was told some disturbing news… He was a hitman. Now he's her bodyguard (thanks to her father) and she doesn't know whether she can trust him. And no matter what she does, she can't keep those memories from disturbing her thoughts. Funny thing is...Cory feels the same. He thinks she tried to kill him three years ago, and he doesn't trust her. But damn, if he can't keep his hands off her! heeheee

2007 is on its way out what memorable moment of the year would you want preserved in your own personal time capsule?

It was my goal to get an agent this year. Well, I may not have an agent yet, but I'm very close. I've submitted two stories to different agents, and I'm excited to announce that I've caught the interest of three big agents. All three have expressed an interest in my writing style. Unfortunately, I still haven't found the story that excites them. But I'll not give up. I still have MANY stories up my sleeves… So looking back on 2007, I know I have at least accomplished something and I am getting closer!

Black Friday passed recently and most Americans were out and about risking limbs for the chance at a great deal. Did you brave the masses and if so can you tell us what your best Black Friday deal was this year?
Too funny. Anyone who knows me knows that I equate shopping to the plague. Just the term, Black Friday makes me squirm and break out in hives. Alas, even if I had wanted to stand in the long lines, I wasn't anywhere where shopping could be considered premium. I spent Thanksgiving at my mother-in-laws where the population is probably about 7,500. Of course, DH will tell you that he got the best deal to be had that day. He bought a beer and a burrito at the local Allsups. It's a Panhandle thing.

Eliza's Copper Penny is your latest sequel on your historical bookshelf. Can you tell us a little bit about the schoolmarm and her unintended patient? Also for those who aren't familiar with the book's predecessors can this book be read as a standalone?

Eliza is a very prim and proper teacher until she meets Copper, and he rattles her defenses. With a secret to guard, having a Texas Ranger in her home causes some fretful moments. Both characters are very close to my heart. Eliza is fashioned after my grandmother who taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in 1919. I have her original contract, which stated she couldn't be courted or couldn't marry if she wanted to keep her position. While all three in the series can be read as standalones, there is a subtle plot line that weaves from one to the other. In Sarah's Brass Token, Tabor's brother, Jake is accused of murder. In Julia's Golden Eagle, the real murderer is revealed but escapes. Copper's mission in Eliza's Copper Penny is to apprehend the murderer. Another related book, Kaitlin's Silver Lining comes out in February 2008 and features a minor character from Julia's Golden Eagle so it is totally a standalone. (I tend to fall in love with all my characters, so I have a hard time leaving them.)

You're having a holiday dinner to celebrate the season of giving who, if there was no limitation, would be your guest of honor?

Only one? I can think of several who would be a hoot to feed. I would love to visit with Leonardo Da Vinci and tap his brain. What a genius. On the other hand, I love the artwork of Salvidor Dali, as he painted worlds that inspired some of my own imagery in Celestial Dragon. Now, if my DH had a say in the guest list, we'd have the entire Blue Collar Comedy tour in our backyard.
Realistically though, we actually host Orphan's Thanksgiving in which the guests of honor are the college kids that live in our neighborhood. The future is in the hands of these wonderful young people. Between them and the other neighbors, we fed right at 60 folks about two weeks prior to Thanksgiving. It was a blast.

Your creative genes aren't limited to just the written word. You're also a painter with some beautiful work. Does your inspiration for painting differ from that of your books?

This question stumped me and I'm usually never at a loss of words. I suppose the answer is yes. In painting, my favorite style is surrealism. I love putting images together that have deeper meaning. Art is just another form of communication except the viewer has greater opportunity for interpretation. I want my art to ask questions that only the viewer can answer for themselves. Granted, not all of my pieces will do this as I have a lot of studies represented on my website as well as the more involved pieces. The science-fiction futuristic romances I write reflect my love of surrealistic imagery. Also, I can look at a common object and be moved to paint a crazy painting. But the same common object might just as easily inspire a scene. I'm currently working on another historical western for an anthology that Champagne Books will be publishing next year where the heroines all rode the orphan train. The Orphan Train blog chronicles our progress. For my part, I've been posting pictures of various antique objects that have inspired scenes. My last blog features the pair of glove stretchers my great-grandmother owned and the scene that popped into my head upon finding them. http://orphantrainbooks.blogspot.com/

In 2008, name one resolution you plan on accomplishing come hell or high water?

Finish some neglected projects. Once Jilted is my last contracted piece and once I've finished writing it (which I hope to accomplish by New Year's Day), I want to take some time to finish some outstanding manuscripts before contracting anything more. I started another sequel to Celestial Dragon that I think will outshine both books when done, but I just need to sit down and write it. I have a time-travel I wrote about four years ago that I want to rewrite. I also have a fantasy series started that I have one completed book for, but I want to complete at least one more before finding a home for it. I'm not a snail but I'm not a hummingbird either. The longest I've ever taken for a project was two years. The quickest was about five months.
