Why is "abbreviated" such a long word?
You think 'abbreviated' is long? Have you seen: ‘pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis'? ~
Lucinda Betts
Because the word was created by a man. They always want us to think the shortest little thing is still hugely long. ~
Jade Lee
Cause the English language needs to be as hard to understand as possible? ~
Karen Kay
So abbreviations can be short. It wouldn't be as useful the other way around. ~
Mechele Armstrong
Well gee...with all those shortened words, you have to have one that makes you look smart! ~
Maggie Nash
It's making up for the letters it takes away from other words. ~
Michelle M. Pillow
Shakespeare invented it. He had a hang-up about two b's. (2 b or not 2 b. Get it? Sigh. Sorry.) ~
Sahara Kelly
God was feeling sarcastic that day. ~
Jenna Leigh
Cause it is so small, if it had a small name, no one would use it. ~
Savannah Black
Those tricksy tricksy wordsmiths. They like to play with our minds. (Evil laughter) ~
Kimber Chin
Because English was designed to be a very difficult language. That’s why we need English teachers. What other language do you know that has three definitions and different spellings for the same sounding word? ~
Allison Knight
To prove the point that shorter words are truly better. ~
Titania Ladley
And an even bigger question—if a word was misspelled in the dictionary, how would we know? And what’s another word for Thesaurus? ~
Jordan Dane
To make a point. LOL. ~

~ Reader Question & Answers from October ~
Halloween is coming soon; tell me how you're going to spend the holiday.
For Halloween, my department members and I will be dressed up as our company's mascots. These are costumes we have made ourselves and we are not seamstresses. Hopefully we will win the costume contest and if we do, we will be wearing these same costumes November 1st for the amusement of our customers. ~ Chris R.
Oooo our whole town has fun on Halloween. We live in a small rural town that actually has a real "court square" in the center of town. For Halloween the town closes all the streets around the square and the merchants/businesses located around the square decorate their store/business fronts and sit out on the sidewalk and give candy to kiddies. In the center of the square other local businesses can set up booths to distribute candy or other little promotional items (glow sticks are really popular with the kids). A band sets up in the very center and provides live entertainment...nope it's not generally Halloween music...we're in the deep south it is country music. Also one of the local banks creates a haunted house display in their lobby and everyone goes to see what they have this year (the year before last was my favorite -- they had Star Wars figures and characters including Jabba the Hut -- Jabba scares me!!) The sheriff's department brings "Gruff the Crime Dog" for the kids to meet and often hand out some kind of safety related item (last year it was a lock for the trigger on your gun -- yep everyone around here has a gun).
Then there is the church that sends out people to discourage the worship of Satan, as they see it, and they have a guy dressed as Jesus dragging around a cross and giving out flyers about their church.
Hehehe all the kids dress up and there is a costume contest if you choose to enter. Some whole families dress up. I have a number of appropriate Halloween t-shirts or sweaters (depending on the weather) that I wear while my hubby and I walk around with our youngster. Last year we accompanied Harry Potter...hmmm he hasn't said who he intends to be this year... I'd better check on that... ~ Stephanie B.
Congratulations to Chris R. and Stephanie B. who won their choice of eBooks from Rosa Romance!

Since you are a fan of all things Scottish have you had a chance to visit Scotland and what is it that draws you to the culture?
I'm not sure what draws me to the culture, though it always has, even as a child. There's just something mystical and beautiful about the land and the people. Unfortunately, I haven't been there. Yet, but my husband promises to get me there really soon.
In November the final installation of your The Shield series is set for release. While writing A Warrior's Heart how did you feel knowing this was the end to such a well loved series?
The will be my second series to end, and I have to admit, I don't like it when a series ends. I've come to really love the characters and going through their struggles with them. I like getting to their story; I just hate writing The End.
During October I noticed Ryan Reynolds graced your Hunk of the Week post; if you could write a story with him as your muse what would it be about?
lol. Isn't he just adorable and yummy? I wish I wrote some humor and quirky, much like his character on Blade Trinity. He has such a knack for those corny, laughable lines. If I did ever write a book with him as my hero, it'd have to be a contemporary paranormal setting to be able to pull off the lines I'd need/want to.
Your books all seem to fall under the Historical/Dark Fantasy genre of romance, what element of your books do you feel add the dark aspect to them and sets them apart from a typical Fantasy offering?
My stories are just dark. I love to laugh and read/watch humor, but I couldn't write it if my life depended on it. I write what comes naturally, which tends to be dark. It was my publishers that started labeling my work dark fantasy. I just thought it was fantasy until I was told I wrote "dark". Lol Who knew?
Thanksgiving is coming, how will you and your family spend that special day?
We have a very long tradition in my family with Thanksgiving. It's still at my parent's house. And every year I have to make my mother promise to let me bring some desserts. She likes to do everything herself, and doesn't share well on big holidays. My father's family also comes in from Louisiana. It's a pretty major affair and the house is crammed full of people, laughter and really great food. After lunch and the kitchen in cleaned, some fall asleep and the rest of us go outside and start hanging my parent's Christmas lights on the house. I always look forward to Thanksgiving. It's just one of those holidays that have a very special meaning to me.

Christmas is coming and you want to shock an old friend with a goody basket of items selected from your stories. What would your friend see when she opened up the basket?
Champagne, strawberries and a purple suede flogger.
Your novella Union in Blood comes out soon, how closely linked is this book and the Adventures in Blood 2 series linked to the original set of stories?
It continues the adventures immediately after
Commitment in Blood. (and there are two more to come in 2008)
You write for print and electronic publishers, does your writing process change based on the format the story will be published in?
No :-) Word length obviously varies with publisher and if it's a novella, short story, novel, etc. But stories all come the same way.
What is your all time favorite movie?
Hard one this. Tom Jones I think. Fun, brilliant and very, very sexy without being explicit. That dinner in the Inn scene is probably the sexiest scene ever filmed.
