~ Quirky Question of the Month ~

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

And if you have a studio apartment, do you have room for complaint ~ Lucinda Betts

Because apartments are where kids go to get apart from their parents and close to OTHER people who want to get apart from their parents. *sigh* Can you tell I have teenage daughters? ~ Jade Lee

English -- don't you just love it? ~ Karen Kay

Cause you are apart from the other people instead of living in a communal dwelling would be my guess. ~ Mechele Armstrong

They are all A Part of the MENT of course silly! ~ Maggie Nash

Because they have walls to keep people together, but apart. ~ Michelle M. Pillow

I'm still working on why the British call them "flats"... ~ Sahara Kelly

I don't know, compartments would be a better word. ~ Jenna Leigh

Cause if they were called togetherments no one would want to live in them. ~ Savannah Black

Nothing will make you wish to live apart from others, then living in an apartment building. My stint made me envying Robinson Crusoe. ~ Kimber Chin

Apartments are stuck together, so you can hear your neighbors but you don't have to live in the same space with them. ~ Allison Knight

Because they are all "a part" of a whole. ~ Titania Ladley

Dunno, this one duplexes me. ~ Ciara Gold

Yeah, they should have called them compartments. ~ Annette Blair

Can you tell us a little about your new release Wolfkin?

Wolkfkin is a dark, high fantasy M/M romance. The main character, Arun, comes from a rather sheltered and unpleasant environment. When he is set out as bait for the wolfkin he is expecting to meet a terrible monster. What he finds is a rather unusual, but rather attractive, man. However now Arun is starting to turn into a monster himself. Rather a lot of angst in this one but if the readers like it there is a lot more of this story to tell. I would like to tell a story that is not so much about meeting and falling in love, but staying together and in love through everything life (and, in this case, black magic and evil gods) will throw at you.

All the proceeds from Wolfkin will be donated to Wolf Mountain Sanctuary. How did this decision come about?

It has been in the back of my mind for some time that while shape-shifters and other fantasy stories do very well, the actual wild animals described in them are doing very poorly in most cases. If only a share of the profits from enterprises that mention animals, from Tony the Tiger to 'I was a Teenage Werewolf' went to help those animals. Well, I can't tell other people what to do but my new year's resolution last year was to donate the royalties of my next were-wolf book to a wolf charity. As it happens the two large wolf charities I approached 1) told me they weren't interested and 2) never replied to my enquiry. So I decided that perhaps a small press book and a small sanctuary were a better match. I knew of Wolf Mountain Sanctuary from author Rae Monet's website and they were happy, in fact noticeably enthusiastic, about taking my money (even if it came from the tewwible romance/gay/porn book LOL). In the end I think writing about charismatic werewolves has helped me as a writer, and it is only fitting that some actual wolves might get something out of it in return.

Fast forward five years from now, the books are all bestsellers, you're a household name and life could never be better, what would be the next item on your must accomplish list?

Call it a failure of imagination but if my career was going well, and my writing was going well, what else could I want but to try and keep that going? I think that might be enough for one lifetime!

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be and why?

I have a lot of dreams where I can fly but the idea of doing that in real life terrifies me. I would probably opt for mind-reading because I am a nosey blighter. Anything but precognition. What would be the point of life if you knew how it turned out? I can't even write a book if I have it too thoroughly outlined in advance, I just lose interest!

Finish this sentence: Tomorrow I absolutely refuse to......

...regret what I did today. :)

Your new release Tyger, Tyger Burning Bryght sounds great, can you tell me about it

I wrote this story purely for some hot, purrring fun. The heroine gets to play out a fantasy of mine - she's at the mercy of an incredibly sexy hero who could take her by force, but he would much rather she succumb to his incredible love-making. Tryon Jag is the navigator for the space ship Orion, many years in the future. He expects to be back in port on his home planet of Bryght for his yearly mating shape-shift. Unfortunately, the Orion is behind schedule, and he is trapped on board as a huge half-man, half-cat. He's big, he's dangerous, and he's hot. If he does not get a female of his own kind to mate with, he will go mad. What's a guy to do? Commandeer the jungle-like arboretum, and a lovely young female, of course. Calla Fellura may turn out to be his purrrfect mate, if he can keep her and the rest of the passengers and crew alive - seems a terrorist is on board, and he's sabotaged the ship's navigation system. The Tyger will have some hunting to do, as well as navigating the huge ship through the deadliest asteroid belt in the galaxy. But there will be plenty of time for steamy seduction in the arboretum.

The blurb and cover for your book says The Orion series. Are there many books planned for this series?

Glad you asked! The crew leaders of the Orion are all from different planets - human, but with evolutionary twists caused by the different environments of the planets they are from. Their sensual romances will play out against a background of action suspense as the Orion is stalked by a group of terrorists who will stop at nothing to destroy the ship, and her parent company. Every one of the crew leaders is destined to find the one woman or man who can satisfy them - if they can stay alive long enough! This is purely 'space opera', and I think anyone will enjoy the stories for the red hot romance, adventure, and some fun 'gadgets', even if they are not sci fi fans. Readers who enjoy 'Tyger' should definitely keep an eye out for more adventures aboard the Orion.

What was your favorite TV show when growing up?

I actually grew up without a television. I thought I was an incredibly underprivileged child, but now I see what a blessing it was - I read voraciously, and still have a pretty wild inner life, with stories spinning constantly. Also, I grew up in Montana - a great place to be outdoors a lot. That said, I loved to go to friends' homes and watch TV when I could - the campiness of the old 'Space Family Robinson', 'the Addams Family' and all the old westerns still influence my sense of having fun with genre and setting. I love dropping my heroines into period pieces complete with a maddening, macho, but ultimately tender hero.

You have been given a magic wand to turn the next person who irritates you into any animal you choose, what animal do you pick?

Definitely a golden retriever. They have to be nice, it's genetic. They are so goofy and sweet, they never meet a stranger. Our home wouldn't be complete without at least one.

If you were a crayon what color would you be?

I would be black, because the best thing to do with crayons is to create a wild, lush design, color over it with black, and then scratch out a picture, watching the colors come through. Remember doing that when you were a kid? Writing for me is all about recapturing that sense of fun - in a much sexier, edgier way, now that I'm an adult. You have to have darkness to add drama, whether the picture is strictly visual or drawn in our minds by an author. We all love to get to the happy, bright ending, but ya gotta have some black to contrast.
