Do sheep get static cling when they rub against one another?

Probably. It might also explain where the wool comes from for those complicated cable knit sweaters. ~ Sahara Kelly

No, but they get static electricity and sparks fly. ~ Sasha White

That's why they have sheep dogs. To pull them apart. ~ Mechele Armstrong

Sheep get a lot of things when they run against each other. Static cling is only one of them. ~ Lucinda Betts

Demon's Hunger was just released; can you tell us about it and how you came up with the idea for the story?

Thanks so much for inviting me to participate in the Author Spotlight! In Demon's Hunger, forensic anthropologist Vivien Cairn fears she's losing her mind. She's been having blackouts, chunks of time lost with no memory of where she's been or what she's done. When sexy sorcerer Dain Hawkins asks for her help in hunting a supernatural serial killer, she agrees, and as they delve deeper into the mysterious deaths, they are forced to confront the horrific possibility that Vivien is somehow connected to the crimes. But is Vivien the killer…or the next intended victim?

The idea for the story evolved organically, but one part of it--the study of bones--is an area I'm quite familiar with. I teach human anatomy, so bones hold a particular fascination for me, as they do for the heroine of Demon's Hunger.

If you could pick any celebrity to be on the cover of your book, who would it be and why?

I wouldn't. For me, I see my characters a certain way, picturing them in my mind. They don't look or act like anyone I know, or any celebrity, so it would ruin the effect if I chose someone to represent them on the cover.

The first time Vivien sees Dain, he's leaning against the rail of her front porch wearing faded jeans and a loose poet's shirt. He hasn't shaved in a couple of days, and his dark brown hair is messy and shaggy. Sexy. His eyes are silvery gray, framed by long, dark lashes. And within minutes, he saves her life.

I hope Dain comes alive for my reader. Personally, I don't see him as a celebrity. I just see him as Dain.

Release day is here; buzz is out, anticipation fierce, how do you spend the first day of a new book release?

I wish I had a great answer for this. The truth is, I've been on such killer deadlines (eleven projects turned in since March 2005) that I haven't had time to do much besides work. I did go to the bookstore and pet the cover of my very first release, Dark Desires (November 2005), but unless I'm doing a signing on release day, I might not even realize it's release day. How terrible is that?

I do have a signing planned at a fabulous bookstore (IndigoSpirit, Royal Bank Plaza, Toronto) for the release of Demon's Hunger in December, along with my pal, paranormal author Michelle Rowen. That'll be a great time.

And with each book, my hubby has the cover framed and he hangs them on the wall in the family room.

Nature of the Beast anthology was released in September, could you tell us about your story?

My story in Nature of the Beast is titled Kiss of the Vampire. When my editor first mentioned the project to me, I was a little wary. I'd never written a vampire story, and to that point, the only paranormal books I'd written were contemporary. But this anthology is historical. I gave it some thought and came up with a moody, broody suspenseful tale that is similar in tone to the historical suspense stories I write for Zebra.

Kiss of the Vampire is set in 1839 London. Nurse Sarah Lowell discovers that someone is killing her patients, draining them of their blood. When accusation fly and enigmatic surgeon Killian Thayne is rumored to be the killer, Sarah must decide whether or not to risk everything for his embrace...Perhaps even her life.

You've just been given a robot to perform any chores that you hate to do. What's the first thing you program it to do?

    The bathroom. Definitely the bathroom.

Ecstasy in Edmonton is the second book in your Pepper On Location series. Can you tell us a little about Peppers adventures in this story?

This time Pepper gets to go to Edmonton, Alberta in the middle of winter which is a very different environment than her Los Angeles home (which we get to see when she hauls her Edmonton hunk stateside for a visit. Many of my readers may think of Edmonton as cold barren city but it is anything but. Vibrant, lots of culture and the chill of winter is counter-balanced by the steamy sexuality. And I speak from personal experience!

The film part of the story explores copyright, something that may seem dull at first glance but think of the passion you might have if you thought a nobody was claiming the work of someone you respected as their own. That Pepper starts out trying to seduce this guy doesn't impress the Canadian crew. And the cold and snow become characters in themselves. Beautiful. And deadly.

I have to admit that I've had a chance to read Ecstasy in Edmonton already and it was a great story! I have enjoyed reading about Pepper's adventures and wondered if you can tell us what else you have in store for her? Or should I say what she has in store for us?

More cities, more loves, more adventures in the film business.

Each story will have at least one location with lots of handsome dudes, emotional roller coasters and an insider's view at some aspect of the motion picture industry.

If you had a shrinking device, what's the thing in your house you'd miniaturize first?

All the spiders. And their webs. So they are so tiny I can't even see them. No matter how hard I try, this being southern California, they invite themselves in to feed off the bugs that also… ok, so maybe ALL the bugs…

If you could invite one special guest of honor to your birthday party, who would it be?

My dad, who died when I was just entering my teens, and who taught me I could do anything I put my mind to. Just so he could see how much I've done.

If you had to design a postage stamp, what would you put on it?

The Teach Tolerance logo (www.tolerance.org). They have been sending me address labels for years and I am always proud to use them. If people read and hear about positive steps often enough, instead of hate and greed and war, perhaps we can really become one big happy family some day. :-)
