Mother Road
Leona Dawson lived with her sister and brother-in-law. After her sister’s death, Leona decided stay with Andy to help raise the kids and run the gas station. In the year 1932, that is a scandalous thing for an unwed woman to do. The house and business is right on Route 66, also known as the Mother Road. Leona meets a lot of people, some are sweet and kind and some are very dangerous. When she meets Yates, Leona’s pretty sure he falls in the dangerous category.
Yates feels he owes Andy his life and he intends to repay Andy somehow. Yates never realized how much his life would change when he pulled into Andy’s gas station. A skunk bite sends Andy to the hospital, leaving Yates to help out around the gas station in Andy’s absence. That doesn’t help the talk around town about Leona’s reputation. Leona thinks Yates is the most infuriating man she’s ever met, but he also stirs feelings in her; feelings best left alone.
As Yates and Leona grow closer, something happens that could pull them apart. Is their love strong enough to keep them together?
Mother Road is the first book in the Route 66 trilogy. This is an intriguing story that you won’t be able to put down until the end. Dorothy Garlock has stayed true to form with another unforgettable tale. Yates is a rugged hero with a heart of gold and Leona is a strong heroine that will stand her ground and fight for what she believes in and for those she loves. Mother Road takes us back to a time in life when things didn’t come easy and life was hard, but love stood firm between family and friends. Ms. Garlock is remarkable at making you feel like you are “living” the story with incredible scenery and character description. The books in this series are Mother Road, Hope’s Highway and Song of the Road. This is a series and an author that this reviewer highly recommends!
