Englishwoman Lady Emma Houndsdale finds herself shipwrecked off the coast of 1930’s Italy and mistaken for her maid and at the mercy of a group of men led by Marco Antonioni. Although their mission is not known to her, Emma could care less. She wants to return to her father who actually thinks she died. Even while she is angered that they hold her against her will, she is unwillingly attracted to the dark and dangerous Marco. And, even though she believes she wants no part of him, his life or his mission, she can’t resist the temptation he represents.

Marco and his men have a dangerous mission and exposing Emma is dangerous because she could reveal their plan to his enemies. To ensure everyone’s safety, Marco brings her along, but during the course of their adventure he gets to know her better. The chemistry between them explodes, and Marco finds himself enraptured by the beautiful, haughty Emma.

Bella Donna is a fantastic read. Marco, who is a doctor bent on revenge, and Emma, a strong and determined beauty, are not that unique at first glance. But, setting the story in 1930’s Italy, a time when the world was on the brink of war and Mussolini ruled the country and committed many atrocities, is distinctive. The love scenes are explosive as is the world around them. As I learned more about the characters, I found myself caught up in Marco’s quest, Emma’s spirit, and the richly detailed setting.

In this stunning sequel to Secret Services, Ms. Dawson has created a fantastic story that lives up to its predecessor. Not only is the love story sensuous and thrilling, but she also includes an action-packed plot that kept this reader on the edge of her seat.
