Ex-Files 3: Kinky Katy
If you had the opportunity to go back in time, figure out where your marital relationship went wrong, then decide if you want to get your former spouse back or continue on in your new divorce life – what choice would you make? That’s the choice being given to Katy Jennings in The Ex-Files 3: Kinky Katy.
Katy Jennings has always fixed other peoples’ problems, avoided confrontations, and shut her feelings away. When her marriage ended, she tried to make it as easy on everyone involved as possible. Now one year later, she finds out her ex-husband, Garrett, is remarrying. Arriving at a “moving in together party” for one of her fellow “Divorcee’s Anonymous” friends, all Katy can think about is her failed marriage. Feelings of guilt over her good friend’s fortune send Katy fleeing for the bathroom. She awakens to find herself in the presence of her fairy godmother. Tallulah informs her that she is sending Katy back to the year 1983, the first year of her marriage to Garrett Jennings.
Once there, Katy must determine where things went wrong and if she still wants Garrett or if she wants to remain a divorcee. She’ll have five days to look at what she did in the past, and then she’ll be returned to the present. However, just because she makes changes back in 1983 doesn’t mean things in present 2004 won’t still be the same as when she left.
What will Katy learn? Will she learn to acknowledge her part in the break up of her marriage? Can what she learns by going back to 1983 make a difference to her present life in 2004? How will the Ex-Files ladies assist her in figuring things out?
Dakota Cassidy’s The Ex-Files: Kinky Katy takes a realistic look at the aftermath of an unwanted divorce. Katy deals with the common question of what might have happened if I had done this, or not done that? She agonizes over the “if only I could do it all over again.” Then when she receives a reprieve, she makes the most of it while trying to figure out how, when and why things went so wrong. In the end, she discovers what every person who has ever been married has to discover, especially if they want their marriage to succeed…
Katy’s character is so realistic I found myself able to identify with her almost one hundred percent. Tallulah, the fairy godmother, gets her points across to Katy in a no nonsense fashion, but does it in a humorous way that makes you laugh. I’d like to see a story about her. The secondary characters of Maxine, Maddie, and Victoria add to the over all enjoyment of the story. While you only read about them briefly, the three of them are unique and have left me with the desire to go back and read the two previous Ex-Files I missed and the upcoming Ex-Files, which is Victoria’s story.
Having had my say about Ms. Dakota’s story, if you want to learn what Katy discovers about herself and her marriage, I recommend you read the third book in The Ex-Files Series: Kinky Katy.
